WATCH: Cute Arctic Fox Pups Play and Wrestle in Alaska

Bruce Lyon is a professor within the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Division at UC Santa Cruz in California. Whereas performing some analysis on St. Paul Island, one of many Pribilof Islands off the coast of Alaska, he recorded some Arctic fox pups enjoying round. The pups are lovable, and it’s enjoyable to observe them play (and play struggle).

Lyon posted three movies of the pups this week on YouTube. The primary video is an Arctic fox play struggle, exhibiting two cute fuzz balls wrestling with one another. The second video reveals a ton of pups doing baby-animal issues—digging, enjoying, and many others. The third video reveals but extra playtime, notably with two little pups and a log that they actually appear to love.

“An arctic fox pair has a den with 9 kits to not removed from the place I’m staying on St Paul Island,” Lyon writes in his YouTube caption for all three movies. “The pups are sometimes hunkered down however sooner or later all 9 have been out and enjoying: racing round, sneaking up and leaping on one another, chewing on driftwood or useless fish, and play combating.”

Why Are the Arctic Fox Pups Brown?

New child Arctic fox pups have “brief velvety darkish brown fur,” in response to the Alaska Division of Fish and Sport. This fur lengthens and turns into lighter because the pups develop.

Full-grown Arctic foxes can both be white or “blue”/charcoal coloured. Within the Pribilof Islands, Alaska Fish and Sport says the darker colour part is extra widespread, although each exist. The white Arctic foxes are solely white through the winter. Their summer time coat is darkish brown. “Blue-phase” Arctic foxes stay darkish year-round, although their coat does lighten within the winter.
